Tech giant Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp) has looked to Europe to accelerate its ambitions from the Metaverse, buying Luxexcel, a company specializing in 3D printing of eyeglass lenses.

Luxexcel, which was founded in 2009, started out as a manufacturer of prescription spectacle lenses. Since then, the Dutch-Belgian company has been able to integrate the elements needed for an augmented reality (AR) experience into an eyeglass lens, such as holographic foils and projectors.

Meta did not disclose the price for the acquisition. In a statement, the company said it is pleased that the Luxexcel team is finally joining Meta and expects the purchase to deepen the existing partnership between the two companies.
