The Vision Council has announced the launch of the 2020 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Survey. Developed in partnership with Nonprofit HR, one of the leading full-service human resources firms focused exclusively on the nonprofit sector with expertise in DEI consulting, the custom survey is intended to benchmark the vision care leadership landscape in order to help organizations within the industry identify opportunities they have to promote diversity, cultivate talent and improve their performance. The survey is open to all members of the vision care products and services industry and participation is confidential. To participate in the survey, click here. The survey will remain open until Monday, November 23.
An analysis of the 2020 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion survey will be presented by The Vision Council’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force following their review of the survey results at The Vision Council’s 2021 Virtual Executive Summit, taking place January 26–28, 2021. Registration for The Executive Summit will open in the coming weeks.
“Coming out of The Executive Summit in January 2020, we announced a new direction for The Vision Council with a renewed focus on community-building and industry growth. Fostering a more diverse, equitable and inclusive community is paramount to this new vision,” said Ashley Mills, CEO of The Vision Council. “Since then, we’ve put our plans in motion with the creation of a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force responsible for developing dynamic programming and now, with the launch of the 2020 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Survey. We encourage everyone in the industry to participate so that we can gather the breadth of data required to identify milestones, provide tangible, actionable pathways for our members to access, and, ultimately, effect long-lasting change.”
“This survey is such an important step in bringing about positive change in our community,” said Dr. Derrick Artis, who serves as the leading member of The Vision Council’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force. “In order to develop meaningful goals, we need to have an understanding of where we stand right now, both in terms of raw data and insights into how the concepts of diversity, equity and inclusion are perceived by those within the vision care community. This survey will allow The Vision Council’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force to put our ideas into action in a thoughtful, intentional way, with the benefit of the entire industry in mind. We hope as many people as possible across all segments of the industry participate so we can have this impact.”
The 2020 survey is the second diversity survey developed by The Vision Council. The first was conducted in 2019 and the results were shared at the 2020 Executive Summit.
“The initial diversity study we conducted in 2019 was always a starting point. We knew that there was more work to do and that we would need to expand the survey,” said Mills. “By partnering with Nonprofit HR and their DEI consultants to support and guide our efforts—from developing the survey to assisting with the analysis of the results—we are elevating our commitment to drive change.”
