Oliver Fischbach elected president of EUROM Optical Industries

The European optical industry has a new president: Oliver Fischbach, Senior Vice President of Western Europe & North America at Hoya Vision Care and a representative of Spectaris, was elected president of the European umbrella organization at the General Assembly of EUROM 1 Optical Industries in Naples.

EUROM 1 Optical Industries brings together the national associations of manufacturers of eyeglass lenses, frames, sunglasses, and optical equipment. The umbrella organization represents the interests of the European optical industry vis-à-vis European institutions and addresses key issues such as regulatory developments, standardization, and economic and trade policy matters.

“The European level is of great importance to our industry. Many of the framework conditions affecting our companies are shaped in Brussels. This makes strong representation of the optical industry in the European dialogue all the more important. I look forward to working with the member associations to advance our industry’s interests and to actively help shape the future work of EUROM 1,” says Oliver Fischbach.

Fischbach has many years of experience in the international optical industry. He previously led EUROM 1 from 2017 to 2020 and thus brings extensive knowledge of European association work to the role.

In addition to the elections for the Executive Board, the General Assembly in Naples focused on current challenges and developments in the industry. Among other topics, the member associations discussed regulatory initiatives, technical issues, standardization topics, and market and technology trends. In addition, the partner association ECOO (European Council of Optometry and Optics) provided insights into developments in the field of European eye care.

With the election of the new Executive Board, EUROM 1 is setting an important course for the coming years. Spectaris will continue to actively participate in European association work and represent the interests of the German optical industry at the European level.
