Indizen Optical Technologies (IOT) announced the appointment of Dr. José Alonso, a distinguished vision scientist, co-founder, and long-time senior advisor of IOT, as its Chief Innovation Officer (CINO). Dr. Alonso’s extensive expertise in optical metrology, ophthalmic optics, and his profound understanding of visual science are expected to accelerate IOT’s mission to revolutionize eye care through cutting-edge technological advancements.

In his new role, Dr. Alonso will be responsible for leading and coordinating all innovation activities within IOT globally. His primary focus will be on pioneering new initiatives that will reshape the ophthalmic industry landscape, both from a technological and clinical perspective. Key areas of focus will include accelerating innovation in free-form lens designs, and advancing the development of groundbreaking technology.

Dr. Alonso’s appointment as CINO is part of a strategic organizational restructuring aimed at optimizing IOT’s innovation capabilities. He will report directly to Daniel Crespo, CEO of IOT, ensuring a streamlined approach to innovation and product development.

Dr. Alonso’s impressive career spans over three decades, during which he has made significant contributions to the fields of optical metrology and ophthalmic optics. He has authored or co-authored over 60 research articles in leading scientific journals, directed numerous research projects, co-invented more than 20 patents. In addition to his role at IOT, Dr. Alonso is a Professor at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he has taught courses on vision, ophthalmic lens technology, and other related subjects.
